High School Geometry

The teacher always said I would use geometry.  It was everywhere.  I couldn't get away from it.  Truthfully, I hated it.  My grades were decent, but I always dreaded going to that class.  If I don't understand why something works (like geometry proofs), I will not retain it nor fully understand.  Anyway, finally made it out of that class and never looked back until now.  We have recently remodeled our bathrooms, and I had a brown shower curtain that was fairly new prior to the remodel.  It did not go with the new color scheme, but I hated to get rid of it. It was a gift from my sweet daughters.  So I hung onto it.  When the fall decorating bug hit, I made the burlap runner in the picture.  I felt like it needed something else.  It finally occurred to me that I could make the freshly laundered, rectangular brown shower curtain into a round table cloth.  As I folded and pinned the shower curtain into a square, and marked my arc where I would cut, I realized I just used my tenth grade geometry lessons.  I'm not sure my teachers would be proud since it's several decades later, but they were right!  I did use geometry. Woowhoo

  1. Shout out to you...blogging again! I liked this post, can't wait to see it live and in person, hopefully sometime soon. I like it...and I don't think I retained enough geometry to attempt anything circular.

  2. hahaa, I hated geometry too. I did better in calculus than geometry. That's why nobody lets me pack the car for a trip! I don't even remember what proofs are. Good job on the table cloth and runner. They look great!
